I awoke to the news of Matt Davis passing away yesterday, and like many of you, I am heartbroken. I consider myself very lucky to have crossed paths with Matt. He always welcomed me with a tight as hell hug and the warmest smile. But you see Matt greeted everyone he knew this way; he made everyone feel loved. When I took over ChopCult, he was one of the first to reach out and offered me advice that I continue to use today. He was constantly giving back, helping others succeed and treated everyone with kindness. Matt was a great husband, father, and friend who will be missed by all. Matt, thank you for setting the bar with DicE Magazine and for creating a home for all of us to enjoy.
Matt loved to ride and built many bikes over the years. I thought it would be fitting to showcase one of them. Here's the Shrimp Boat Captain that published back in 2011. The article was penned by Harold "McGoo" McGruther.
Matt Davis is 50 percent of the one-two punch that is DicE magazine. Matt and his publishing partner Dean Micetich are no strangers to good times, and they've got the stable of hand-built freedom machines to prove it. The media mogul rode this stately shovelhead to BF3 last month, and its purposeful stance and interesting livery instantly caught our eye.
Perhaps more than any other periodical, DicE is the wildly popular chapbook that helps set the tone in today's custom motorcycle scene. Every issue is chock full of bikes, broads, and bullshit to warm any chopperphile's heart. DicE is a labor of love for Davis and Micetich, and their efforts don't go unnoticed. Every time a new issue rolls off the press, Matt and Dean throw a premier party to give something back to the scene their rag helps define and popularize. These parties are hosted around the world, and each one is well attended by the chopper glitterati in that region. If you haven't been to a DicE premier party, put it on your bucket list—Matt and Dean know how to party, and they've got the frequent flier miles to prove it. -McGoo
From Dice Magazine's Instagram account "Thank you to everyone that has sent words of love and comfort, we truly appreciate all of you. The legend that is Matt Davis will live on forever and we will continue to celebrate his amazing spirit and outlook on life. Issue 72 will be in his honor, and so will every issue that follows it. In his own words... "Let's Go!"
Heartfelt thoughts and prayers go out to Matt's wife Tina, his daughter Rosie, Dean, Justina, Wil, The DicE Magazine and TRIco family, and to everyone that had the opportunity to know Matt. See you later my friend.
Matt was one of the best, most honest guys I have ever met. They say you haven't died until the last person who knew you or who's life you touched is gone, so in that sense Matt will be with us for many more wonderful rides.
Although he will be missed, I know Matt would have that big old smile on his face knowing we're all out here riding and thinking about him.
stunned and gutted. I have every single magazine I;ve purchased I treasure his and Dean's work and one got the sense of a genuine cool guy who had to be hella fun at a party. always fancied myself meeting them out at a show or party but tis not to be. My heartfelt prayers for his family and large circle of incredible friends and followers.
