Mike Pilaczynski is no stranger in these parts. His Old-Stf feed is a staple on the CC Blogdump, and he's got build threads in the American Bikes and Tech forum. Mike recently documented production of his 1957 Four-Five in this thread. We caught up with Mike at The DMCF last month to photograph the finished machine.
Owner/Location: Gary Goodson/Olivehurst, CA
Builder: Old-Stf Cycle Shop
Engine year and make, model, modifications: 1957 HD 45" flathead that we sold and had to buy it back. WLDR cams, Linkert carburetor modified by my father Rick
Frame: Paughco, zero up, zero out, 30° rake
Fork: Repop I-beam
Chassis mods: A little bit, not much.
Tire/wheel size and style: Rear: Metz on dual flange 16" rear.
Front: 21" Avon on repop star hub with Buchanan stainless steel spokes front/rear
Favorite thing about this bike: Comfortable, easy to ride and actually does highway speeds
Next modification will be: We're finished, but the owner Gary has mentioned more pinstriping
Other mods, accessories, cool parts, etc: Some handmade parts consist of the sissy bar, kicker arm, handlebars, chain guard, plate mount, shifter, floorboard mounts and controls. Some purchased and modified parts consist of top clamp, seat, pipes, clutch+ basket, gas and oil tank.
Builder's backstory: This is the first bike I shared online as it progressed. It was also the first bike for a customer where we were able to actually put our own ideas to work. It started out as a customer's vision and we slowly integrated some of our own ideas into the build. It's 50% Old-Stf and 50% our customer's vision, but we did what we could to work within the guidelines and are pretty happy with the outcome
Thanks: First and foremost Garry Copeland—this guy is a legend in my opinion. He constantly helped us during the build; Rudy Duarte Paint and Body Shop; Sanchez Powder Coating; Custom Chrome & Bumper; Universal Metal Polishing; Peewee's Pinstriping; Steve Weinstock for the engraving; Paughco, Biltwell and Lowbrow for miscellaneous parts; all my family and friends that make up Old-Stf, and of course all the people who watched online or in person who commented and gave suggestions
