Focus: Mooneyes Yokohama Japan, Outside

Last weekend, Yokohama, Japan hosted what is arguably the wildest collection of custom motorcycles on the planet, the Mooneyes Hot Rod Custom Show. Our intrepid friend and photog, Mike D. from Blotto Parts was on secret assignment with one mission: nab some pics of the bikes outside the show, the ones people rode in on. There is nothing wrong with the show bikes, and we'll have a feature on those coming up shortly, but we wanted to see what the average salaryman Japanese dude was riding. One thing is apparent, many of the bikes outside were just as good as the ones inside, and even better, they were ridden there...

Tuco, look closer. There IS a bad ass Honda chopper.

I see two Honda's. Now were these old HD's all over there since day one, or have they all been imported recently? Always wondered that.

that shovel head 6th to last is BAD

Agreed, Suckaduckpunk1. Anyone with a true appreciation of the time, craftsmanship and dedication needed to build a "proper chopper" will get beyond the name plate and enjoy the MACHINE for what it has become, thanks to its maker. I think the old "Harleys are best/ screw tha' rest" mantra is OK if'n you're at a HOG meeting, but I personally can appreciate ANY bike, regardless of brand, which has become a tabgible representation of its creator's mind. Great article and pix. LOVE those old Pans and Knucks! =) Respects

Motoguru, Lotsa' folks don't know that HD's (or more precisely, their "Cousin", the Rikuo) was made in Japan prior to and after WWII. The AMA has a decent page on this interesting bit of Harley trivia. I would not be surprised to learn that some of those old scooters were Rikuos or --civilized-- WLA's left over from tha' occupation. Fascinating stuff! Respects

Oh wow, I really love the Aces High bike. For those of you that know that song, there is some great analogy to riding in there:

Live to Fly

Fly to Live

Aces High

I think we need a ChopCult in Japan! How bout it Bill? Is there some how some way to get those badass motherfuckers on this site or sister site up with something over there? I'm pretty retarded when it comes to internet translators and all that. But is it possible? Little chopper pen pal exchange shit?

Thanks to Mike D for the great pics . . . those guys over there certainly have some clues. I love the irony of the healthy low tech bike scene in Japan!

I was over seas while in the military and I was amazed at how many American bikes made it over there. Its kind of funny I see foreign merchandise no matter what side of the fence you are on. Its like it is more coveted when its not built on your soil. Great pics guys keep up the hard work...

Been following that scene for a while and inspired me to build my own "lane splitter" basic as the law allows over here and skinny many built on a shoestring which is true custom IMHO!
