This was my first time going to Willie's Old School Chopper Show in Daytona, Florida, and in fact it was my first time going to Bike Week. I was kind of skeptical about the whole Bike Week thing, because of the severe aura of a bagger parade, but I got to say when you roll into Willie's on Thursday during Bike Week, and see all those choppers lined up inches apart from one another, it was mind-blowing. There was everything represented, from the radical builds, and the range from short chops to long chops, ratty chops to super-clean works of art. Everything a chopper enthusiast would love to see. Friends from all over the country drinking beers, laughing, and just hanging out in a tattoo shop parking lot staring at some of the best bikes around. Another awesome thing about Willie's is that all bikes that park on the property have to be ridden in to be part of the show. There is no room for trailer queens. And with world famous MC Roadside Marty as master of ceremonies, the awards show is the best thing in the world to witness. Not only is he a rad dude and one of the best humans in the industry, but to watch him call everybody up there one at a time with their bike to get their picture taken with him talking mad shit the whole time is awesome and hilarious.
Willie's is definitely on my radar for every year that I can make it down there. Coming from the Midwest, it's a nice break to get down to somewhere warm, and be able to ride motorcycles around and have a good time in the sun. If you've never been, get your ass down to Florida in March and check out all that bike week has to offer, because there's a ton of chopper stuff to do. You'll definitely have a good time if you're looking for one.
Please check out my extended coverage here and buy a print or two. :-)
