ChopCult Photo Contest

Billdozer and I are the first to admit it: neither of us is a photographer. Many of our faithful ChopCult members are, however, and for this reason the best of you deserve your props. Jason Craver at No School Choppers agrees, and he's volunteered three great prizes to sweeten the pot on this month's contest.

The rules for this month's ChopCult photo contest are simple:

1) Shoot a picture. Anything: motorcycles, still lifes, live action, hot chicks and bikes, you name it. All we insist is that every photo submitted must relate to the machine or the "lifestyle" (whatever that means) in some way. No Mexican sunsets, Ansel Adams desert scenics, cheesecake photography, etc. It's got to have a bike or speak to the scene in some way, or it won't make the cut.

2) All photos must be 1200 pixels wide or 800 pixels tall by 72 dpi max, no exceptions. Cellphone snappies, postage stamps, 10-gig posters and all similarly incorrect images will be deleted from the thread.

3) Post your photo on the contest thread that's stickied on the main forum. The name of this thread is "ChopCult Photo Contest," and you can find it by clicking here. The deadline to submit your photo is May 31, 2010.

4) Original photos only. No rehashed, repopped, recolored or rejected photos from other shooters will be accepted. If we think we've seen a shot before, we'll delete it from the thread. Also, no pro shooters, please. If you make a living shooting photos, please let the amateur shooters among your ChopCult peers have their 15 minutes of fame.

5) One entry per member. Don't start another profile to enter a second image, because we know how to check for that sort of thing and we'll delete both entries if we catch anyone resorting to such shady practices.

5) Judging. June 1, Billdozer and I will pick our 10 favorite photos from all entries received and let ChopCult members vote in a poll. Members will have until June 15 to select their favorite. The top three vote-getters will win the following gift certificates from No School Choppers:

First Place: $125

Second Place: $75

Third Place: $50

These gift certificates are redeemable for anything No School Choppers make or sells. All three winners will also receive a ChopCult t-shirt and sticker grab bag.

It wouldn't be a ChopCult feature without some cheesy photos of our own, so enjoy these outtakes from shoots gone by. None of these would win any awards, but something you shot may very well win some free booty from No School. Good luck, have fun, and thanks for participating in the contest.

" If you make a living shooting photos"

Any kind of photos or just bike photography?

this is a very novel idea. let alone resent pics, how can i post pics from 25-30 years ago? perhaps one of my 25-34 year old children will know how. if not, i still have decent photos of me and my bikes dating back to 1974. this post on my favorite site caused me to dig those out of safe keeping. took me way back. even to hits on the radio in the years before peter fonda was cool.

haha man I hate it when photographers just snip a little bit out of what was nearly a well framed shot!

This is a sweet idea.

Other than Easy Rider when was Peter Fonda cool?

Someone at the Ft. Lauderdale Art College once told me, "Amateurs TAKE pictures, professionals MAKE photographs." If you're an amateur shooter and a professional PhotoShopper, unleash the hounds... you're in.

And Rude, you're in.

totally rad.

i think we should keep the editing to minimal color adjustments and sharpening....makes it more interesting.

It also makes for better pics

Stone falls into the "pro" category Mr. Deathbirthday. He's out.

Thanks for the ego boost... it's nice to get kicked out for something besides being too drunk.

Commented on 5-4-2010 At 06:53 pm

But as a guy who wants to see what y'all throw out, I'm gonna contradict the "minimal Photoshop" nay-sayers...
Let the kids go wild.
There's a time and a place for all of it...
If it sucks, it sucks. And if it crushes? Well fuck yeah to crushin'.
