Zack Taylor built this scrappy Honda Rebel for the mean streets of Los Angeles, but now this gung-ho artist and 20-something bikerider calls Phoenix home. Zack's quarter-liter lanesplitter is a textbook example of what can be done to even an unspectacular donor bike when you apply enough vision, passion and elbow grease.
Zack provided these images and specs, and we're happy to feature his stripped-down commuter bike for Chopcultists to see. Thanks for your enthusiasm and the info, Zack. To see more of his bike in the assembly process, visit Machine-13.

In the builder's own words: At the time I built this bike I was living in Los Angeles. If you've been there you have to agree the roads and traffic are gnarly. I wanted to build something that if it got damaged or stolen I could walk away saying, "Well—at least it was cheap." I also wanted a challenge to build something out of the ugliest bike I could find. The Honda Rebel definitely fits the bill. When it was all said and done I had to scrap everything on the bike except the frame and motor. Coming in at under 300 pounds and being as narrow as a broomstick makes it a hell of a lot of fun to ride, and a real lane splitter, to boot. Probably my favorite part about the bike is seeing other peoples' reaction to it and not knowing what it is.

I always wondered if anyone cut these up,too. I've been sort of keeping my eye out for one of those (kinda rare) 450 Rebels they made for a year or two in the '80s for my next project....now I am REALLY itching to get one!

But if it's a lanesplitter, even as light as it is, doesn't it need something doing stopping duties up front?
