Have you ever wondered who is responsible for the annual event held in Oklahoma known as “Just Kickers”? Well meet Kirk Sharp, a biker who really knows his vintage Harley Davidsons, from the heart of Dallas, Texas. Kirk and his new partners, Jim Harper and Kenny Kirk, of Chopper Supply Co., are expanding the event this year to include vendors, camping, biker games, and even some motorcycle drag racing to add to the mix. Their goal is to keep the event true to Kirk’s original idea of having a grass roots event, while evolving into a show that will be anticipated by like-minded individuals from around the country.

Kirk started Just Kickers four years ago with nothing more than an idea and a location to put on a true grass roots event for vintage Harley enthusiasts. Kirk was tired of riding thousands of miles to attend motorcycle events so, after his trip to Big Mountain Run, he decided to go forward with what is known today as Just Kickers. Kirk reached out to Lisa Ballard to help promote, sponsor, and drive sponsorship and all hell broke loose from there. Lisa has been a vital part of the success of the event and continues to be a valued part of the event’s success.
The event will be moving to a larger location in Springer, Oklahoma, at the Ardmore Dragway. There will be plenty of shade and lots of water holes to keep cool while in attendance. The event will run from May 29th thru the 30th, so make sure you get those choppers road worthy and camping gear situated for one hell of a good time.
The Bikes of Just Kickers
I have attended Just Kickers for the last three years, and the one thing there’s not a shortage of is kick ass choppers. Knuckles to Panhead’s from Ironhead’s to Shovels, there is something for everyone’s taste. This also gives us an opportunity to showcase our bikes and the work we put into them leading up to the event, while seeing some insane fabrication from top notch builders. If you have not had a chance to attend, this is the year to make that happen. You will not be disappointed.
As you can see here, Kirk and Jim have a couple of long chops that will be amongst the hundreds of bikes that you will see at the event.
Jim’s long chop is a 1976 Shovelhead, aka The Chipmunk Slayer, and was bone stock when he got the bike. Shortly after, he hard tailed and stretched the frame, chopped and fabricated a set of old fat bob tanks and finally had Scott Hoepker of Chemical Candy Customs do his magic on the gas tank with some classic style flames. Jim owns Jim’s Choppers in Fort Worth, Texas and has built some quality choppers, which includes his 1962 Pan/Shovel, aka Blucifer and the recently completed 1976 Shovelhead for Scott of Chemical Candy Customs.
Kirk owns many kick ass choppers that most of us dream of one day having, including Pans, shovels and one of the cleanest Knuckles around. The long bike you see here is a 1978 long chop that is built around an early wishbone frame that was hacked and modified by Jim. The front end on this bike is truly insane, built by Sugar Bear, which makes this bike one of a kind. Kirk labels this bike as the most comfortable bike in his fleet of choppers and, as you can see, it has style for days.
These two guys are longtime friends and avid riders. They have put thousands of miles on the roads of the country together, which include trips to the Born Free, Big Mountain Run and many of the Texas highways. They would like to thank Lisa Ballard for her ongoing support and friendship, Scott Hoepker for his talent and assistance with the past Just Kicker events, Kenny Kirk, and all those who support and continue to support Just Kickers. In the words of Kirk Sharp, “Fuck it; ride it!” See you guys at the end of the month!
