Focus: Gilby's Pan

Many a professional lush has lamented: "One drink's too many and ten isn't enough." Unrepentant chopper addicts can say the same thing about motorcycles. One such heavy tinkerer is Gilby Clarke. This is the second bike in Gilby's quiver we've featured on ChopCult, and one of the first this talented builder and musician is justifiably proud to say he built himself. Like a good drunk's cupboard, Gilby's garage is well stocked with potent iron. And like whiskey, once you get a taste for old motorcycles you just can't stop at one.

love the chrome tank/fender.

heard gilby was in a wreck here recently.
having to go thru a few surgeries to...get well soon!

Commented on 1-29-2010 At 06:32 am

Wow. Pretty clean. I wonder why one black grip?

Commented on 1-29-2010 At 07:20 am

The grips are clear. One is over black bar, the other over an aluminum throttle. Yeah, Gilby got hit on this bike coming home from Pamona. His buddy JD told me he's doing fine but just got through surgery this week. Gilby's one of my favorite riding buddies and an all around righteous guy. Hopefully he'll have a fast recovery and be back on the bikes soon.

That tank must make it fun riding in the California sun.

Commented on 1-29-2010 At 07:43 am

Gentleman wear your sunglasses! Killer!!!

Commented on 1-29-2010 At 08:36 am

Wow, killer bike! That tank is just awe inspiring, fuckin awesome job. As we say in the Northeast, "that bike is wicked killa man!" hahahahaha

Commented on 1-29-2010 At 08:48 am

That bike is sexy as fuck. One day I hope to put enough funds together to be able to build a pan. Sexiest HD motor ever.

Commented on 1-29-2010 At 09:03 am

now thats chrome that should be on a bike. flashy but tasteful. not like these road kings that have chrome trim on everything chrome tape decks and chrome cup holders

Commented on 1-29-2010 At 10:27 am

very classy look, pulling off chrome sheet metal... thats some skill. how did the bike fair in his wreck? seems like everyone is getting hit lately !!!! best of luck on the recovery gilby.

Commented on 1-29-2010 At 12:11 pm

thats a straight SFV pan...the best was watching Gilby and the 'StarFuckers' rip it up onstage and also watch Gilby watching the judges looking at his Pan whilst shredding!! Nice job dude...g$

Commented on 1-29-2010 At 12:20 pm

Get well dude.

Commented on 1-29-2010 At 12:49 pm

Hippy Killer? If so, I wondered what those grips looked like over different colour metals.

Commented on 1-29-2010 At 01:09 pm

What I love about it is that if someone tried to describe this bike before it was built, I would have said, "That's got a good chance of looking overdone". And then to see it in person at the Dave Mann show, I thought the exact opposite. The chrome just looked like it belonged everywhere, and the bike came out class as hell.

Awesome job, get well and ridin' soon.

shiny metal has never looked so good

Commented on 1-29-2010 At 03:17 pm

Killer bike!

But hey, is it just me or the background sized pic doesn't work? It would look rad on my desktop, y'know.

Commented on 1-29-2010 At 07:50 pm

Sick, sick, sick. Nuff said. Recover fast Gilby!

Commented on 1-29-2010 At 11:35 pm

as the brothers say "that's that I'll shit right there, Son."
Get Well Soon!

Commented on 1-29-2010 At 11:44 pm

Yes, Hippy Killer grips, etc. Sure is a fine pan. Very clean. Even better in person, but they always are. Looking forward to seeing you out and about Gilby. Heal quick.

Commented on 1-29-2010 At 11:58 pm

this is just nit picking, and i apologize, but you shoulda cleaned the tires before the photo shoot. the pics are amazing, the bike is amazing, but my eyes keep looking at the mud in the treads for some reason...

Commented on 1-30-2010 At 12:08 am

Ha, ha. Thanks Olde Pro, but I'm not cleaning anyone's tires. We shoot runners not trailer queens here and once in a while there is some dirt or mud on them.

I'll look into why the last two "desktop" images are not loading. We had a software upgrade and it must have eaten them somehow.

Commented on 1-30-2010 At 12:13 am

Yeah, sorry fellas, on the desktop thing, that feature is going to be broken for a few articles until the new stuff is phased in over the next couple weeks. You'll like the upgrade because all the photos will be "clickable" to see a larger size and you won't have to scroll as much.

Commented on 1-30-2010 At 03:09 am

Thanks Bill.
Can't wait to see this bike in person. And with Gilby riding it.
Get well soon.

ive never been a chrome guy but that is just cool

Commented on 1-30-2010 At 09:31 am

I just keep staring at this bike, wow is it nice. Didn't know that much chrome could look so good

Commented on 1-30-2010 At 10:15 am

Super sweet bike! Heal fast from the wreck, I know getting banged up sucks.

Commented on 1-30-2010 At 01:47 pm

thanx chopcult for another bitchin' feature... the bike wasn't finished when i entered it in the show, but it was running. as you can tell, i was one the very few that rode their bike to the show. and since the show, i've cleaned the tires, got a black throttle body, painted it & then wrecked it !

i know it's only rock n' roll, but i like it !

Commented on 1-30-2010 At 04:40 pm

Damn Shiney!!!!

Commented on 1-30-2010 At 07:31 pm

Man, great to see (hear) you joking around again, GC. Get well soon and keep in touch. Looking forward to our little ride in April...

Commented on 1-31-2010 At 08:00 am

I could use the chrome-tank with a red vintage sticker on it.

Commented on 1-31-2010 At 10:42 am

when in doubt chrome it out.

Commented on 1-31-2010 At 11:28 am

Great bike! Crashing sucks!!! Glad to hear you're on the road to riding.

Commented on 1-31-2010 At 04:10 pm

Turtle, you don't know how right you are.

Those are Hippy Killer pegs I believe. Check

Commented on 1-31-2010 At 06:59 pm

Bill, just let me know next time you're shooting and I'll bring the rags for the tires, me I know its a runner and not a full on 'just for show bike'! and Gilby, get better man....heal up and keep on rocking.

Commented on 1-31-2010 At 10:54 pm

Fu-King NICE!'s the new "black".

Chrome hasn't looked, and never will look, as good as it does on this effing pan. Beautiful bike and yes sunglasses are not optional.
