Recently in the "Anytime Art" thread a particular Chop Cultist's work caught my eye. Brad Coleman's scaled down machines perfectly capture the gesture of the motorcycles they are modeled after. I got in touch with the artist and asked him a few questions. His answers, and his own photos are showcased below. 

From your blog it looks like you haven't been making these long. How many bike sculptures like this have you created? So far I have created 10 of them.

What other forms of sculpture/art do you do? Mainly pinstriping and custom automotive painting, but i have done some oil on canvass and I'm always drawing with pen or pencil.

Wanna give us a run down on the process? How long does it typically take? Do you do anything to get scale correct or is it all by eye? What tools do you use?  It starts with a rough sketch on paper in the size I want the final bike to be. This then becomes the template for all the parts of the bike. the scale is done all by eye. No measuring involved, just what looks  good. It can take from 3 to 4 weeks to complete one bike, depending on size and detail. I use the standard metal working tools. grinders, sanders, drills, saws...

Which one is your favorite so far? The board track racers probably are, but the second Panhead is definitely high on the list.

What's your background, ie: self-taught, art school, etc? All my skills are self taught.

Got any pics of your real motorcycle? (I see a Triumph listed on your profile) As far as the Triumph goes, it's still in the, pile of parts stage. hopefully soon. I currently ride a XS650... when its not broken.

Do you do commissions? ie: would you duplicate someone's bike? Yep. (Editor's note: How cool would it be to have your bike immortalized like this?)

Anything else you'd like to add? My sculptures are 100% hand made in the USA. I don't make duplicates. Every one is different. They are truly a one off work of art. Once again, thanks for giving me an opportunity to have a feature on the site. I love bikes, and love to ride them. The Chop Cult is an awesome place for me to talk and share ideas with like minded people
